How Does Invisalign Work?
The Invisalign Method
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligner trays instead of metal braces to move teeth into the correct positions. The aligner trays, which cover the entire dental arch, fit snuggly and apply the pressure needed to gently move your teeth.
A series of trays will be custom-designed for your mouth, with each tray incrementally moving teeth a little closer to perfection. Each aligner in the series is worn for about two weeks. While braces are permanently affixed to your teeth throughout treatment, the smooth, comfortable aligner trays are easy to slip off during meals or when it's time to brush and floss your teeth, which makes daily dental hygiene easy.

My daughter, son, and I have had wonderful experiences with our orthodontic treatments by Dr. Scott and his staff. They are highly skilled, professional, patient, and affordable. During the pandemic we fell behind with our maintenance, but plan on returning to continue treatment. Highly recommend!
Patients of All Ages Love Invisalign ... And for Good Reason
Inconspicuous
Clear aligners practically disappear in your mouth when you are wearing them. That means they won't be the focal point in years to come as you look back at photos of a younger you.
Fit Your Lifestyle
If you play contact sports, smooth aligners mean you won't have to worry that blows to the face will cause metal braces to cut the soft tissues in your mouth.
Offer Food Freedom
Traditional braces put a long list of foods off the menu, from popcorn to caramel apples. That's not the case with aligner trays. Since you remove the trays to eat, you will be free to pick your favorite foods.
Comfortable
Because aligners distribute pressure over the entire tooth surface to straighten your teeth, they are more comfortable than conventional braces that create a pressure point where the metal bracket attaches to the tooth. And, of course, the smooth plastic trays will never poke you like the metal used in conventional braces.
Restoration-Friendly
Traditional bridges, porcelain crowns, and implant-supported restorations can mean your braces treatment will be more complex; special adhesives are needed to secure brackets to restorations, and dental implants cannot be moved once anchored in the jaw. Invisalign is often a better alternative in these cases.

Improve the Health and Appearance of Your Smile Request an Invisalign consultation today
A misaligned bite impacts more than just the appearance of your smile – it can affect your oral health, too. Crooked teeth can make it difficult to brush and floss properly, leading to tooth decay and gum disease. A misaligned bite can also cause issues with the temporomandibular joints, or TMJs. This can cause pain, headaches, a clicking jaw, and more.
Invisalign is a fantastic and discreet orthodontic alternative that allows patients to straighten their teeth without bulky and obvious metal wires and brackets. In many cases, Invisalign treatment is also faster than traditional braces, with an average of 18 months for treatment versus 24 months with traditional braces.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign
How long do I have to wear the aligner trays each day?
Invisalign works best if the aligner trays are worn for at least 22 hours a day. For the best results, only remove them to eat, to clean the trays, and to brush and floss your teeth.
Is there an age limit or minimum for Invisalign treatment?
It is never too late to straighten your smile. As for minimum age, Invisalign is best for patients who are responsible enough to wear and maintain the aligner trays. Because each child is different, there isn't a set age minimum. During your consultation at our Bowie-area dental practice, your dentist will discuss these things with you to determine if Invisalign is right for your child.
Once treatment is completed, how long do I have to wear a retainer?
Dentists and orthodontists suggest wearing a retainer every night to maintain your results once Invisalign treatment is complete. This will help prevent your teeth from shifting out of place. Your last aligner can often be used as a retainer

"Dr. Scott and Liz are wonderful!" More 5-Star Reviews From the Bowie Area
The whole experience was great! From the staff's helpfulness, to them going above an beyond to help me. Had pain for a year, and they did an occlusal adjustment for free to help it, in addition! Great work Dr. Scott, and team!
Dr. Scott and Liz are wonderful! I started Invisalign with them, and they’ve done a great job of explaining the process and managing expectations. The office is nice, and you don’t have to wait long at all to be called back (every other dentist/orthodontist has me waiting for at least 20 minutes after my scheduled time slot). I can’t wait to see my final smile once my treatment plan is over.
